Giancarlo Stanton Makes Feelings Clear on Yankees' Aggressive Trade Deadline
Giancarlo Stanton Makes Feelings Clear on Yankees' Aggressive Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays mired in a nearly three-hour rain delay on Thursday afternoon, Giancarlo Stanton and teammates sat in the locker room refreshing their phones ahead of the 6 p.m. trade deadline. When the Yankees closed out their 7-4 victory, Stanton learned of the Yankees' final haul: Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar, San Francisco Giants reliever Camilo Doval, Colorado Rockies pitcher Jake Bird, and Rays shortstop José Caballero. 'Glad they're with us now,' Stanton said. Stanton called it 'unreal' that the Yankees acquired Bednar and Doval, both of whom have earned All-Star nods. Caballero is tied for the major-league lead with 34 stolen bases. 'Got some great additions and they'll fit in nicely and help us make this push here,' Stanton said. Although media members and social media users quickly included the Yankees in various 'trade deadline winners' lists, the Bombers didn't address every need. Most notably, the Yankees failed to boost their starting rotation, which already lost Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt to season-ending elbow injuries. Cole is expected back early next season, and Schmidt will miss most of 2026. The good news: reigning AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil will rejoin the Yankees' rotation on Sunday. However, the Yankees still lack an impactful third starter with two months left; Carlos Rodón and Max Fried can only do so much, and the latter posted a disappointing 5.54 ERA in 26 July innings. Marcus Stroman and Will Warren are expected to remain in the rotation, while Cam Schlittler may move to the bullpen. Rangers Looking For Bullpen Relief As MLB Trade Deadline Inches Closer
The 2025 MLB trade deadline is just hours away, and the Texas Rangers have been linked to multiple bullpen players who can help push this team to the playoffs. After hovering near .500 and falling behind the red-hot Seattle Mariners in the American League West standings, the Rangers find themselves at a critical crossroads entering Thursday's 5 p.m. CT cutoff. With an impressive winning stretch now in the rearview and lingering questions in the bullpen, team president Chris Young is reportedly working the phones to address key roster gaps. The most glaring concern for this team is finding a meaningful relief pitcher who can help the team in the back halves of games. Multiple sources have confirmed the Rangers are making calls and have been considering moves for high-leverage arms, notably Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar, according to The Dallas Morning News. This trade would immediately fill a role hole for a Rangers team that recently released closing pitcher Luke Jackson, who had primarily served as the team's main option at the end of games this season. Bednar, a two-time All-Star with 17 saves this year, is under team control through 2026, which is one of the many details driving up his price tag as a player widely expected to be moved before the deadline. Unfortunately, the Rangers reportedly believe that the price for Bednar could become too high as the deadline inches closer, leaving them to pursue other, more realistic options to help the bullpen, according to a source close to the situation that spoke with the New York Times. Texas has also reportedly shown interest in Tampa Bay Rays reliever Pete Fairbanks, a former Rangers prospect, St. Louis Cardinals righty Phil Maton, and Kansas City Royals reliever Hunter Harvey. With other contenders such as the Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers also in the market for top-end relievers, pressure is mounting for Young to strike quickly as supply dwindles.

All eyes on GM Ross Atkins as Blue Jays attempt to bolster roster on Thursday's deadline day
The Major League Baseball trade deadline of Thursday at 6 p.m. ET is shaping up as an arms race. Article content The Blue Jays will be active with various names already being bandied about, whether it's a starter or by adding to a bullpen that welcomed pending free agent Seranthony Dominguez from the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday in between games of a doubleheader. Article content Article content The righty faced his former team for the second game in a row on Wednesday in Toronto's 9-8 win, and had two strikeouts in his one inning on the mound. Article content Toronto's bullpen, outside of Yariel Rodriguez, gave the Jays 4.1 scoreless innings in a much-needed victory with Brendon Little, Mason Fluharty, Braydon Fisher, Dominguez and Jeff Hoffman combining to record nine strikeouts, while yielding one hit and no runs. Article content Given the amount of teams in need of bullpen depth, which includes the Blue Jays, the bidding will only intensify in the hours, even minutes, leading up to Thursday's deadline.. Article content Among the names being linked to the Jay are the likes of Pittsburgh's David Bednar and Dennis Santana, and Ryan Helsley of St. Louis. Article content It would surprise many if the Jays don't add one, perhaps even two, bullpen arms. Article content The Jays are also said to be in the market for a starting pitcher to bolster a staff that is not getting younger. Article content A leadoff hitter won't hurt, with some believing Cleveland's Steven Kwan is high on the Jays' wish list. Article content On Wednesday in Baltimore, Joey Loperfido hit leadoff for the Blue Jays. His first-inning single was part of his 3-for-5 day at the plate. Article content Article content He has been playing well since being called up from triple-A, and he may make a coveted trade piece if it brings back a quality arm. Article content While the Jays were able to add a much-needed high-leverage reliever during their 4-4 road trip, they also lost Alejandro Kirk, who is expected to return from the seven-day concussion IL Sunday, George Springer, who was hit on the side of the head in the ninth inning of the series opener in Baltimore and did not play in any of the remaining three games, while Ernie Clement (wrist) and Loperfido (thumb) were dealing with issues. Article content Outfielder Daulton Varsho is expected to return Friday when the Jays open a three-game series against the visiting Kansas City Royals, a key positional players who was last in the lineup on May 31 when he hurt his hamstring. Article content It's safe to say the Jays will have a different look by the time Friday rolls around.
